CO-CREA RAICES-LAB Exhibition

Aug 13, 2025 | 10 Ecologías Digitales

Creative laboratories for goldsmithing and artistic casting as devices for the recovery of ancestral memory and knowledge in the indigenous community of San Lorenzo, Riosucio, Caldas.

The product of a qualitative and epistemological analysis of metallurgical techniques in pre-Columbian goldsmithing and technological developments in bronze casting processes—in both traditional and contemporary art—this exhibition showcases the results of investigative, documentary, artistic, and social appropriation of knowledge processes carried out in creative laboratories.

Between July and August 2024 and 2025, Indigenous youth and adults from the community of San Lorenzo (Riosucio, Caldas) participated in educational and creative activities in two creative labs developed by faculty and student researchers from the PRACMA group at the University of Caldas. The participants' artistic results demonstrated that these spaces, which focused on teaching techniques in goldsmithing, artistic casting, and 3D modeling and rendering, functioned as key pedagogical and technological devices for the recovery of ancestral memory and the generation of new creative ecosystems. These, in turn, strengthen and diversify the cultural and artistic expressions of the Indigenous community of San Lorenzo.

Thus, CO-CREA-RAÍCES-LAB is configured as an experimental audiovisual installation that integrates sculptures, photographs, and documentary videos, the result of collaborative activities between researchers and participants. This space for sculptural experimentation emerged from the ongoing dialogue between research and artistic creation. With the aim of promoting pedagogical and creative methodologies that articulate academic, community, ethnographic, and social actors, the exhibition seeks to make visible both the works and the creative processes developed in the indigenous community of San Lorenzo, Riosucio (Caldas).
